Hippies have contributed many things through the years to our Society, our Culture, our Music and Graphic Arts. From the beginning, We were open to new ideas, new ways of looking at reality, (whatever that is).
There is a Scientific American article by By Tam Hunt (December 5, 2018), I was referred to recently, entitled, “The Hippies Were Right: It’s All about Vibrations, Man!“.
Tam is writing about one of the Hippie ideas that I was exposed to in my teen years, so well I’ve been aware of the concept of my own “Vibrations” or “Vibes” for over 60 years.
Wikipedia defines Sympathetic Resonance as, “a harmonic phenomenon wherein a formerly passive string or vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness.“
Hippies knew this innately, when we referred to “Raising Our Vibes“, which meant to shift the focus of reality away from whatever bad thing was happening, while instead lightening the mood, by being more present, more conscious. By having fun!
Through the use of resonance, We could experience the calm of another. Conversely, when Hippies referred to “Don’t Bring Me Down!“, or “What A Bringdown“, the context was that something was causing the vibrations to lower.
It’s amazing what just one human mind can do to effect others using Harmonic Resonance. And experiments have been done with large groups trying to effect large changes on Society through chanting, or praying, or meditating.
Couple this with the concepts of the Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics. Hippies believe that someone who is consistent in keeping themselves vibrating with Joy, and Love and Peace, they will find themselves in a more Joyful, Loving and Peaceful world!
